Working with Dark Entities: Why Removal Is Not Enough

People just love entities. They are so much more fascinating than looking at the possibility that you might be selfish—or cruel. Yes, entities are real. There are many different kinds, and yes, they can cause very real problems. But I am less interested in creating another dramatic story about dark forces and much more interested in how and why an entity was able to attach to someone in the first place. That is where the real work begins.

You may be reading this because something does not feel right. Perhaps you have experienced changes in your mood, thoughts, energy, behavior, or physical well-being that do not seem entirely like you. You may feel drained, invaded, watched, influenced, or simply unlike yourself. Perhaps you have already tried therapy, spiritual practices, rituals, medical care, or energy work, but something still feels unresolved.

You do not need to decide by yourself that you “have an entity.” There are many possible reasons for these experiences, and not every unusual or painful experience is caused by an outside presence. Part of my work is helping you look beneath the story and sense what may actually be happening.

For centuries, Indigenous healers, mystics, spiritual practitioners, and other sensitive people have understood that an outside presence can enter or attach to a person’s internal system and affect that person emotionally, psychologically, physically, and energetically. What is new is not the phenomenon itself. What is new is that a recognized Western psychotherapeutic framework is finally creating room to discuss it. Internal Family Systems, or IFS, was developed in the United States during the 1980s. It includes the concept of “unattached burdens”—energies or presences that appear to enter and affect a person’s internal system but do not originate from that person’s own parts.

Some IFS practitioners understand these unattached burdens as entities or beings that may come from outside our ordinary physical reality—possibly from another dimension, realm, or even galaxy. These presences may affect our thoughts, emotions, behavior, physical health, and overall energy. This does not mean that mainstream psychology has reached a consensus that interdimensional entities exist. It does mean that a respected psychological model is giving therapists and clients language with which to discuss experiences that conventional Western psychology has often dismissed automatically. IFS is not discovering something new. It is beginning to recognize an area of human experience that Indigenous cultures and mystical traditions have understood for centuries. What a relief that we can finally begin discussing this openly.

My background in health psychology, Parts Work, psychic perception, and energy work allows me to approach these experiences from more than one direction. I do not automatically interpret everything as psychological, and I do not automatically interpret everything as paranormal. I listen to what you tell me, but I also pay attention to what I perceive beneath the narrative.

The ability to detect and remove entities is certainly an exciting and often dramatic skill—particularly for New Age people who prefer this kind of drama to the ongoing “chop wood, carry water” work on the Self. But simply removing an entity is typically not that beneficial in the long run if you do not address why it was able to attach in the first place.

If someone removes an entity but leaves the original opening untouched, another entity—or another version of the same lesson—may take its place. It is a bit like the form of Western medicine that suppresses symptoms with pills and produces dramatic “results,” sometimes accompanied by serious long-term side effects, rather than taking a holistic body-mind-spirit approach and addressing the underlying cause.

When you work on the cause, many entities begin to find their attachment uncomfortable and leave on their own. It is rather like changing your internal environment so that parasites no longer find you—or your energy field—to be a delicious petri dish of food. This is one of the most important differences in how I work. I am not interested only in getting rid of something frightening. I want to help you understand what made the attachment possible, what the experience may be showing you, and what needs to change so that you are less vulnerable to the same problem in the future.

An entity may be experienced as an unexplained change in mood, intrusive thoughts, exhaustion, physical problems, unusual behavior, or simply the persistent feeling that something is not right. These experiences can also have psychological or medical causes, which is why discernment matters. I do not believe that every difficult emotion, illness, or unwanted thought should be turned into a supernatural story. Even after an entity is removed, physical, emotional, psychological, or energetic damage may remain. That is one reason follow-up work is sometimes necessary.

But once again, removing the entity does not necessarily address the underlying cause. Why was it able to attach in the first place? Some entities are related to karma, ancestral issues, and other longstanding energetic patterns. Some can be connected to black magic, although I have never personally encountered genuine black magic in the United States. Black magic requires a tremendous amount of discipline, and frankly, most Americans are too lazy for that. An entity working through a human being can reach outward in a way that resembles black magic. However, an entity acting through its human host is not the same as a human being who possesses the skill, energy, and discipline required to work deliberately with darker forces.

The majority of entities I have encountered are “critters,” and like all critters, they sniff out environments that are friendly to them. These friendly environments may include people with cracks in their aura or energy field; people who are internally split because they have pushed themselves in two opposing directions, usually unconsciously; energetically powerful human beings who are distracted or careless about self-care; people who are already being stalked or influenced by another entity; and people whose unresolved emotional patterns make attachment easier.

Energetically sensitive and psychically gifted people can be especially vulnerable. Having a great deal of energy or natural psychic openness does not automatically mean that you know how to protect, regulate, or use those abilities. In fact, powerful people who are distracted, depleted, internally divided, or unaware of their own gifts can be very attractive environments for unwanted presences. There are many other possibilities, but these are among the most common.

This is why my work is not based on fear. Fear makes it harder to perceive accurately. Dramatic stories can also give an entity far more importance and power than it deserves.

Instead, I help people become clearer, stronger, more internally aligned, and less hospitable to whatever does not belong with them. People have a hard time looking honestly at themselves. I find that New Age people can have an especially difficult time because so many use the drama and excitement of New Age stories to deflect their feelings and avoid doing any actual work. They say things like, “I did all my rituals to get rid of _____________,” whatever the current story may be. That can be about as effective as religious people mechanically reciting Hail Marys or going to confession without investing any real energy, attention, or intention in the process.

People typically want a solution: Just fix it. Working on the cause of something is exactly that—work. If you choose to work on the cause, you may have to face the uncomfortable task of looking at yourself, examining your internal conflicts, and recognizing how the opening was created. This does not mean blaming yourself for what happened. It means becoming conscious of the conditions that allowed it to happen so that those conditions can change. Most people find this uncomfortable, especially if they have built a large ego around being some kind of New Age healer or teacher.

The best way to remove an entity is to shift your Self so thoroughly that you become a very uncomfortable environment for it. New Age people like to say that everything happens for a reason—but then they often do not want to look at the reason. Working with Source to shift your energy means genuinely examining that idea rather than simply repeating it as a spiritual slogan. An entity may have something to teach you.

Simply removing it without understanding what the experience is revealing means that the lesson may return in another form. You just want to get rid of the damn thing rather than discover what needs to be learned, healed, strengthened, or changed. When an entity leaves because you have changed the environment that allowed it to remain, you may actually be finished with that lesson. Its departure can become a kind of graduation gift from a particular class given to you by Source—a class intended to help you grow, learn, and become stronger.

At Life Path Healings, I work privately with people to sense and address possible entity attachment. When an entity is ready to go, it is often easy to give it a little help in leaving. I also perceive shifts in a person’s energy, which helps me recognize the timing of healthy, authentic removal. Some sessions are conversational and draw upon psychology, Parts Work, and psychic perception. Other work may be quiet, experiential, or primarily energetic. I do not require you to adopt a belief system, accept my interpretation unquestioningly, or turn your experience into a dramatic spiritual identity.

You also do not have to convince me that unusual experiences are possible. My job is to look carefully, listen beneath the story, and help you discern what may be psychological, energetic, spiritual, external—or some combination of these. If entity work is appropriate, we can address both the presence itself and the conditions that may have allowed it to remain. This is not always easy. Most people work very hard on their narratives. They love to tell them, insist on being heard, and insist on being “right.” Many people come to me for readings and end up spending more time telling me about themselves than listening—even when they say, or believe, that they have come to learn something new.

You do not need to arrive with the correct explanation. In fact, it is often more helpful if you can temporarily set aside your explanation and become curious about what is actually happening underneath it. If you have felt that something is influencing you, draining you, or interfering with your ability to feel like yourself—and ordinary explanations or previous approaches have not resolved it—you are welcome to contact me. You do not need to be certain that an entity is involved. That is something we can explore together without fear, sensationalism, or judgment.

I offer a complimentary 30-minute introductory conversation by phone or Zoom so that we can discuss what you have been experiencing and whether working together feels appropriate.

Dig deep.

Accept what you are shown.

Surrender to the lessons.
